Browser extension privacy policy
What the FactfulNews browser extension collects, stores, and sends.
What the extension does
The FactfulNews browser extension shows recent fact checks from FactfulNews.com, lets you search them, and tells you whether the page you are reading has already been fact-checked. It can notify you when a newly published check scores low on reliability.
Data the extension sends
Only to FactfulNews.com. Feed and search requests contain your search text. A page check sends the address (URL) of the page, and only when you open the extension popup on that page or choose "Check facts on FactfulNews" from the right-click menu. The extension never reads page content, never runs on pages in the background, and does not track browsing history.
Data stored on your device
Your preferences (alerts on or off, categories, theme), saved articles, a short-lived copy of the latest feed, and the ids of stories already alerted. This stays in your browser storage and is removed when you uninstall the extension. We do not receive it and do not use accounts.
What we do not do
No advertising, no analytics or tracking in the extension, no sale or sharing of data with third parties, and no remote code: all extension code ships inside the package.
Server-side handling
Requests are handled like other requests to FactfulNews.com. Standard server logs and IP-based rate limiting apply; see the main privacy policy for details.
